On 11 February, the Hilton Batumi hosted the launch of the elite-category referee camp organized by the GFF Refereeing Department.

The camp consists of theoretical and practical components. Referees will familiarize themselves with rule changes and take part in VAR simulations. The seminar is led by the head of GFF Refereeing Department Cüneyt Çakir and involves qualified FIFA and UEFA instructors. The opening day was attended by GFF General Secretary David Mujiri, who wished the participants success for the upcoming season.

The first day of the camp also included physical tests. Georgian referees on the 2024 international category list received special badges.

“Today we started the second part of our preparation for the new season. The first phase started a month ago with the fitness programmes, which the participants received individually from the Refereeing Department. Today there was also a fitness test in the morning, and we are very happy with the results.

Here we have elite referees and assistant referees, as well as women referees and 5 second-category referees whom we invited to this camp. We are here to reach consistency and uniformity for the new season. We will cover important topics and challenges such as hand ball rules, penalty incidents, offside decisions and tactical fouls. There will be group exercises and open discussions. Afterwards, we will do practical sessions on the pitch using VAR, which will help us reach the highest level in preparation for the new season”  Cüneyt Çakir (Head of GFF Refereeing Department)
