On 14-18 August, the Georgian Football Federation organised a camp for Crystalbet Erovnuli Liga and Crystalbet Erovnuli Liga 2 referees, led by the new head of the GFF Refereeing Department Cüneyt Çakir.

The five-day camp took place in Tbilisi and consisted of theoretical and practical elements. The seminar also included VAR simulations.

The VAR system has been used in selected matches of Crystalbet Erovnuli Liga since 2022. From 15 September, VAR will be used in all matches of Crystalbet Erovnuli Liga.

Cüneyt Çakir: “During the camp, we had theoretical and practical sessions covering a variety of important subjects. We paid particular attention to teamwork and management of the game, as well as VAR protocol. We did simulations with the VAR system and tried to establish a certain standard of understanding for all referees.

Our main goal was to determine the current level of the referees and, focus on their weak and strong points for the next programme. We also focused on physical training, in order to avoid injuries and support the physical development of our officials. We had great support from GFF at every stage.

We are very happy with the hard work, effort and dedication of our referees. Every referee in our team is important for us, and together we’ll improve the standard of refereeing in this country. We also need new team members. We will invite students, players and football fans to become referees and join our team.”
