The match of the Super Cup will take place in Tbilisi on August 11 2015. The event of such a scale has never been held in Georgia yet. Since 1998 the Super Cup had been held on the neutral territory and Georgia has become the first country, being not an EU member, which is given the honor of hosting such a high level event. The Louis II stadium in Monte Carlo had been the host of Super Cup within 1998 -2012. Monaco was quite the right place for the organization of such kind of events, but it was the UEFA decision to determine the Super Cup’s venue thereafter on the basis of rotation as they usually do while selecting the venue for the organization of the European League competitions. Monaco will not suffer from the decrease of the tourists’ flow, but Eastern European countries will benefit from it.
It goes without saying the UEFA gives much attention to the organization of such kind of events. It is actually a challenge for our country, local municipality and Georgian Football Federation to hold such a high-level match in Tbilisi. Georgian Football Federation, local municipality, Tbilisi airport and other parties concerned are doing their best to provide the organization of the aforesaid match in a strict conformity with the international standards. For the assistance purposes the UEFA delegation visited Tbilisi on March 2 2015. The visit lasted for 4 days.
The preparation for this match at the Dynamo Arena stadium is in full swing, - they are renovating infrastructure, checking pay-gates, installing electric cables, new scoreboard, seats, repairing the pitch covering, expanding mass media stand and improving internet communication. They are planning to install 150 monitors in the commentators’ boots, press center, VIP boxes and in the Conference Hall.
Tbilisi municipality will provide two venues for the fans of the visiting team (presumably in Ricke and in the Vera Park). They will install special signs in the central part of the city to show the way to the stadium. The matter of transportation is extremely important as long as big number of guests will arrive to Tbilisi within a very short period of time. With this end in view the airport administration took a decision to provide a light duty of welcoming the guests. The guests will be transported from the airport to hotels by means of the travel agencies’ buses. The Nissan Co, which is an UEFA sponsor, will provide service for all UEFA official guests and we will need minimum 50 English speaking drivers for that purpose. There will be an Accreditation Center near the stadium where all journalists and official guests are going to be accredited. Several hundreds of stewards will serve the event. The opening ceremony’s scenario will be a surprise for the fans and guests, but we can inform you about some details in brief: it will last for 6 minutes and 150 professional dancers will take part in it.
UEFA will bring along to Georgia in July three European Cups: European League’s Cup, European Championship’s Cup and Super Cup. All interested persons may see them by their own eyes. So, Georgians are getting ready for a grand football summer this year.
