The New Sports Palace in Tbilisi hosted the final matchday of the 2016 Georgian Futsal League on 10 June. In the end, there was a new champion – the Tbilisi State University team defeated title holders STU-Telasi with the score of 1:0 in the final.
Prior to the final, the match for the third place was staged between the teams of Abkhazia and Tbilisi, with the capital club emerging victorious 8:7.
At the post-final victory ceremony, awards were handed out to both teams and individual players. Jaba Jamburia of TSU was voted the best goalkeeper of the season, while STU-Telasi’s leader Shota Topuria emerged as the top defender. Giorgi Sozashvili – also of STU-Telasi – was chosen as the best universal player, and the best striker award went to TSU’s Lasha Sigunava, who scored the only goal of the final. With 25 goals, the league’s top scorer was Abkhazia’s Melton Akhalaia. The individual awards were presented by former futsal players Zaal Chitaladze, Ale Dzabiradze, Goga Altunashvili, Andro Mizandari and Davit Sologhashvili.
The 2016 Georgian Futsal League Player of the Year award was won by TSU’s Gia Nikveshvili, who received his award from the GFF General Secretary Davit Mujiri.
As for the teams themselves, the second and third-placed sides received their medals from GFF vice-president Aleksandre Iashvili . Finally, the president of the federation Levan Kobiashvili and SBM sports agency’s director Zaal Chitaladze handed the main trophy, together with gold medals, to the league winners.
